About the Program

Class of the Year is a friendly competition that encourages Tempe Leadership alumni to reconnect, engage and make an impact together. Throughout the year, classes earn points by participating in activities as a group, building stronger relationships while staying connected to the Tempe community.

Points can be earned through class hangouts, community events, volunteer opportunities, public meetings, tours and Learning Day participation. Whether you're gathering with former classmates, exploring local organizations, serving the community or supporting the next generation of leaders, every shared experience helps your class move up the leaderboard.

The more your class participates together, the more points you'll earn. Winners will be announced at the end of the current school year, during graduation.

Event Types Include:

Class Hangout - When 3 or more people from your class get together (anywhere), for the purpose of being together.

Community Events - Large-scale events hosted by Tempe Leadership or the Class, the City of Tempe, or local nonprofits (such as TCAA, TCH, or TCC).

Learning Day Guest - Support our adult or youth programs by leading a session, joining us for lunch

Meetings - Public meetings that provide insight into local decision-making and governance. Examples include City Council, city boards and commissions, and school board meetings — all governed by Arizona’s open meeting law.

Tours - Behind-the-scenes visits organized by Tempe Leadership alumni to showcase local organizations, businesses, or community spaces. These tours provide unique access to places and perspectives not typically available to the public.

Volunteer Events - Organized service opportunities where Tempe Leadership members and alumni volunteer together. These experiences emphasize teamwork while contributing directly to Tempe’s needs.
